The de Geest Bathroom process
The bathrooms are manufactured in a factory on a production line.
Assembly is carried out progressively, starting from the floor, to which
walls and ceiling is attached.
Services are run as required to the exterior of the bathroom unit to predetermined points for final connection on-site.
Interior fittings and hardware, together with wall and ceiling finishes are then fixed/applied.
The complete bathroom is then waterproofed and braced and door sealed to ensure protection.
Service connections are designed to minimise on-site labour requirement with a single connection for each of the major services. These decisions are made after close liaison with plumbing, mechanical, electrical, design consultants, and primary contractor.
All necessary connections are made from the exterior of the completed bathroom unit. This means the bathroom is made fully secure by fixing the door closed, thus limiting access to the bathroom until as late as possible, thereby reducing damage and theft and hence maintenance costs.
Design flexibility
The fabrication process imposes absolutely no constraint on the architectural design of the bathroom or adjacent room.
Minor changes may be required in the detailing of some areas to provide maximum benefit. For example, the routes of hot and cold water pipes and wastes may require slight modification.
Wall thickness, the detailing of junctions within the building structure, and connection of services may need reviewing. De Geest are able to offer advice which will ensure that design is not compromised in any way.
Prototype
De Geest stress the importance of construction of a prototype bathroom prior to production.
A prototype means the architect and developer/client can view the complete concept in a finished state. This allows changes in design to be made before production begins.
It also allows the primary contractor and associated trades to become familiar with the concept. Thus the co-ordination aspect between off-site and on-site naturally occurs.
